Brand new R&B vocalist and songwriter Thulani has dropped an impressive first track. The beat of ‘Rover’ combines a heavy kick drum and snare pattern that keeps the rhythm consistent and unrelenting, with the contrasting, laid-back syncopations of the dreamy voices that make up the rest of the accompaniment. The blend of Gums’ production and Dr Dome’s mixing have left the track full of moments of auditory brilliance, from the beautifully timed mid-track silence to the twisting panning of Thulani’s voice towards the end. With soulful music like this and a mind for melody, we should be excited for what’s to come from Thulani. -Dan Peeke
